How to Create a Personal Practice
A personal practice is more than a habit. It has the power to turn the tide in the ongoing battle between the dreamer and the dragon that live inside each of us.
The dragon will use your weaknesses and inconsistencies to point out all the pitfalls and reasons for you to stay safe and hidden inside the hollow mountain. The dreamer wants you to step out of your comfort zone and reach your potential and live out your highest and best life.
The dreamer and the dragon are both looking for the same thing: EVIDENCE.
A daily personal practice provides evidence for your success, and can quiet the voice of the dragon, and give you confidence to take on bigger things.
Exercise is a great beginning personal practice. Beyond the obvious health benefits, it can also be the building block of our ability to make and keep agreements with ourselves.
If you are ready to restore absolute integrity with yourself and want to use a personal practice of exercise to build evidence for your success, here are some tips to start:
1. Do something you enjoy. This isn't the time to punish yourself.
2. Schedule in some margin around your practice. Leave some whitespace in your calendar, so you don't have to rush to or from your practice.
3. Friends make it fun. Grab a workout buddy who will show up for you and who you can show up for, too!
Remember to approach a personal practice as an experiment. Try one week at a time. Pay attention to how you feel before, during, and after your practice.Acknowledge when you make progress, and don't be afraid to make adjustments if something isn't working.
